Resumen

ROJAS VELA, Teodosia Victoria. Aggressive behaviors and parenting styles in high school students. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.4, e504089.  Epub 12-Jun-2025. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14956922.

The main objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between aggressive behaviors and parenting styles in a sample of 250 secondary school adolescents of both sexes, belonging to an educational institution in Florence. This study was conducted under a quantitative approach, with a descriptive correlational cross-sectional design. Participants were selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling and responded to the Buss & Perry Aggression Questionnaire and the Steinberg Parenting Styles Scale. The results revealed an inverse relationship, with a small but significant effect size, between aggressiveness and parenting styles based on commitment (rho: -0.18) and autonomy (rho: -0.13). On the other hand, a direct, highly significant relationship was found, with a moderate effect size, with the parenting style based on control (rho: 0.20). Regarding the levels, a medium level of aggressiveness predominated in 41.6% of the participants. Regarding parenting styles, a medium level of commitment (48.4%) and autonomy (62.8%) was observed, while a low level of control predominated (48%). In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of parenting styles in adolescent aggression, suggesting that certain styles may significantly influence aggressive behavior.
