Abstract

ECHEVERRIA CARANQUI, Jenniffer Pamela  and  PAREDES ECHEVERRIA, Carlos Alberto. The development of social skills in adolescent students from an educational perspective. Revista InveCom [online]. 2025, vol.5, n.4, e504091.  Epub June 25, 2025. ISSN 2739-0063.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14962990.

The development of social skills in children and adolescents is crucial during the school stage, since it directly influences the quality of their social interactions. Therefore, it is important to evaluate key dimensions such as empathy, assertiveness, active listening and resilience. The present study, with a quantitative descriptive-cross-sectional design, evaluated these skills in 350 first-year high school students. To do so, four validated instruments adapted to the Ecuadorian context were used, applied through a questionnaire with a Likert scale. The data analysis, carried out with descriptive statistics and Cronbach's Alpha, revealed high reliability. The results showed that 20% of the students frequently have difficulties maintaining attention and processing information in conversations, 15% show problems interpreting other people's emotions, 20% show insecurity when expressing opinions and defending rights in social situations, and 15% face significant difficulties managing stress and frustration.

Keywords : social skills; empathy; resilience; active listening.
