Abstract

CASTANEDA-ORTIZ, Marcela Cumanda; PINDA-GUANOLEMA, Bayron Ramiro  and  FERNANDEZ, Ariel José Romero-. IAS 41 and its accounting treatment in biological assets. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp1, pp.185-205.  Epub Nov 30, 2025. ISSN 2739-0365.  https://doi.org/10.35381/noesisin.v7i1.378.

In a globalized context, financial and accounting information must comply with international standards that guarantee reliability, uniformity, integrity, and prudence. This research addresses key theoretical aspects of the treatment, accounting, recognition, and disclosure of biological assets, which are fundamental in agricultural, livestock, and farming activities. The correct accounting treatment of these assets reduces risks in decision-making by providing technical, accounting, and financial support. The application of section 34 of the International Financial Reporting Standards for SMEs (IFRS for SMEs) is highlighted, which establishes criteria for the recognition, measurement, and disclosure of biological assets in financial statements. The main objective of the study is to provide accounting guidelines that contribute to the proper presentation of financial information, promoting reasonable and accurate decisions. The methodology used was documentary, with a non-experimental design.
