Abstract

BRAVO-SORNOZA, Víctor Giovanni; CHACON-GOMEZ, Nayibe Eloina  and  CASTRO-SANCHEZ, Fernando de Jesús. Technological tools versus the application of discounts for older adults in notary services. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp1, pp.1208-1226.  Epub Nov 30, 2025. ISSN 2739-0365.  https://doi.org/10.35381/noesisin.v7i1.485.

This study critically analyzes how technological tools in notary offices prevent older adults from exercising their right to legal discounts and exemptions, thereby violating their status as a protected group. The research, which takes a legal approach, combined documentary analysis with fieldwork: a survey of 204 older adults in the canton of Babahoyo and interviews with six notaries. The results show that the current notarial computer system lacks the functionality to automatically apply these tariff benefits. This technical limitation is of concern to notaries, who recognize that it violates the law. The study concludes that an update of the computer systems is urgently needed to ensure compliance with regulations and the effective protection of the rights of older adults.
