Abstract

BONILLA-MUNOZ, Leslie Jael; PROANO-REYES, Gladis Margo  and  CASTRO-SANCHEZ, Fernando de Jesús. The reputation of the obligated party in commercial or contractual processes with politically exposed persons. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp2, pp.434-451.  Epub Dec 31, 2025. Reputation management is a critical issue for entities involved in commercial or contractual processes with politically exposed persons, due to the high risk associated with this type of relationship. This research analyzes how companies-including financial institutions, law firms, and other regulated entities-perceive and manage the reputational risks arising from their links with politically exposed persons. To this end, a qualitative approach was used to examine the relationship between corporate reputation and interactions with politically exposed persons. Within this framework, the main risk perceptions, reputational impacts, and mitigation strategies adopted by regulated entities are identified. It is evident that relationships with politically exposed persons are considered high risk due to the potential for corruption, bribery, and money laundering, factors that can cause significant damage to corporate reputation.

Keywords : Obligated party; reputational risk; politically exposed persons..
