Marriage settlements in the legal sphere in Ecuador are a tool for spouses or those who decide to marry, establishing a regime for the assets and property that will be constituted, where couples should be aware of the benefits of applying marriage settlements. This article reviews the legal and patrimonial effects of prenuptial agreements in Ecuador, using a descriptive methodology and establishing the definition of prenuptial agreements, as well as their main characteristics, causes, and effects. To this end, an analysis and review of academic articles and civil law manuals was carried out, in addition to the support of current legislation and the analysis of data using qualitative methods such as the analysis of doctrinal documents and comparative law. Conceptual processing and the article as a whole were based primarily on analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, and a systems approach.
