Abstract

SANUNGA-HUARACA, Jorge Hernan; PROANO-REYES, Gladis Margot  and  CASTRO-SANCHEZ, Fernando de Jesús. Security and data protection strategies for port operations in Guayaquil. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp2, pp.924-941.  Epub Dec 31, 2025. ISSN 2739-0365.  https://doi.org/10.35381/noesisin.v7i2.625.

The Guayaquil Port Terminal, crucial for Ecuador's trade, faces serious threats from drug trafficking and money laundering that compromise its operational security and the national economy. This qualitative research, with a descriptive and exploratory design, aimed to develop integrated security and data protection strategies to mitigate these risks. Through documentary analysis, interviews, and surveys of port personnel, the study identified critical deficiencies in current procedures, ineffective inter-agency coordination, and a lack of advanced inspection technologies. It concludes that it is imperative to implement a system combining innovative technology, continuous training, and enhanced cooperation among entities. This integration is vital to optimize efficiency, ensure compliance with international regulations, and protect the integrity of the port logistics chain.
