MENDOZA-MENDIETA, Norma Geoconda; ALFONSO-GONZALEZ, Iruma and CASTRO-SANCHEZ, Fernando de Jesús. Socio-legal analysis of the impact of regulatory reforms on Ecuadorian notarial practice. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp2, pp.1150-1165. Epub Dec 31, 2025. ISSN 2739-0365. https://doi.org/10.35381/noesisin.v7i2.644.
Continuous regulatory reforms that have expanded the powers of notaries have led to changes in Ecuador's legal system, although their responsibilities have not been thoroughly addressed. The objective is to examine the role of notaries from their historical origins to the present day and analyzes the notarial institution in Ecuador. The study seeks to determine the relationship between regulatory changes and their effects on notarial practice, paying special attention to the principles governing the notarial function and how successive reassignments of responsibility have modified the exercise of public faith. The approach responds to qualitative and descriptive objectives, using analysis of doctrine, jurisprudence, and documentation to characterize the institution and its responses to reforms.
