Abstract
JACOME-TIPAN, Diego Iván; PROANO-REYES, Gladis Margot and CASTRO-SANCHEZ, Fernando de Jesús. Self-assessment risk matrix for money laundering in vehicle dealerships in Ecuador. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp2, pp.1385-1400. Epub Dec 31, 2025. ISSN 2739-0365. https://doi.org/10.35381/noesisin.v7i2.663.
The purpose of this article is to propose a Money Laundering Risk Self-Assessment Matrix for vehicle dealers in Ecuador, who are regulated entities under FATF standards. This matrix is a fundamental tool within a risk-based approach to risk management. The proposed methodology is developed in successive phases: context analysis, identification, measurement, control, and monitoring of risks associated with factors such as customers, products, channels, and jurisdiction. Its application allows these companies to determine their level of exposure to ML/TF and predicate offenses. Consequently, it facilitates the logical and effective allocation of resources to mitigate the identified risks, thus strengthening their role as the first line of defense against the infiltration of illicit capital.
