Abstract

LOPEZ-RODRIGUEZ, Leslie Mayer; PROANO-REYES, Gladis Margot  and  CASTRO-SANCHEZ, Fernando de Jesús. Trust assessment in compliance officer qualification requirements. Noesis [online]. 2025, vol.7, n.esp2, pp.1420-1434.  Epub Dec 31, 2025. ISSN 2739-0365.  https://doi.org/10.35381/noesisin.v7i2.665.

This article analyzes legislative reforms in Ecuador to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, focusing on the role of compliance officers within financial institutions. The overall objective of the research was to determine whether trustworthiness assessments, specifically polygraph testing, as a requirement for appointing these officers, mitigate the risks of corruption in the detection of these crimes. Using a qualitative methodology and analysis of current documentation, the study concludes that the formal implementation of such polygraph testing within the selection parameters is necessary. This measure is considered crucial to verify the credibility of personnel and strengthen the integrity of the financial system against illegal economies.
