Abstract

VILERA, Natacha; CARRERA, Fernando  and  SILVA DE CASANOVA, Marínés. Impact of Technological Tools in Diabetes on the appearance of chronic complications in patients living with type 1 Diabetes mellitus who attend the CMDLT Endocrinology consultation at CMDLT. Rev Cien CMDLT [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.1, e-211140.  Epub Feb 04, 2024. ISSN 2790-8305.  https://doi.org/10.55361/cmdlt.v16i1.140.

The management of patients living with type 1 diabetes is complex not only because of the pharmacological treatment but also because of the psychosocial impact that this implies, the presence of complications reduces quality of life and increases costs, the use of technology in diabetes has shown better metabolic control with a decrease in HbA1C that has been positively related to the decrease in both microvascular and microvascular complications. This study tries to find the Impact of the use of technology in Diabetes on the appearance of chronic complications in patients with T1DM who are attended at the CMDLT Endocrinology department.

Methods:

Observational, analytical, retrospective type 1 cohort study, with 39 patients, the data was collected using a survey carried out during the patients visit.

Result:

HbA1c is a determining factor on the development of complications in patients with type 1 diabetes (p: 0.014), finding an HbA1c value of 10.32% ± 2.55% in the group without technology and a HbA1c value of 7.69% ± 1.51 in the group with technology, however a cut-off point of HbA1c greater than 8% cancels the relationship between the use or not of technology and the development of complications.
