OBREGON, Oswaldo et al. Triglycerides greater than 100mg/dl in relation to postprandial values, HOMA, Non-HDL and Remnant Cholesterol. Rev Cien CMDLT [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.1, e-232276.  Epub 28-Mar-2025. ISSN 2790-8305.  https://doi.org/10.55361/cmdlt.v17i1.276.

Introduction:

Fasting triglycerides >100 mg/dL are associated with insulin resistance and atherogenic dyslipidemia. Objective: to evaluate increase in postprandial triglycerides based on fasting triglycerides in patients after their usual breakfast and correlate them with insulin resistance, measured by HOMA, and cholesterol and its fractions, Non-HDL Cholesterol and Remnant Cholesterol.

Method:

Descriptive cross-sectional study, with a population of patients from the Endocrinology clinic of the Dr. Carlos Arvelo Military Hospital in Caracas. The samples were taken during fasting and 2 hours after a meal, and then divided into 2 groups according to triglycerides greater or less than 100 mg/dl. Results: Patients with triglycerides less than 100 mg/dL had triglycerides less than 150 mg/dL after 2 hours, although in both groups triglycerides rose an average of 49 mg/dL. Non- HDL cholesterol, Remnant Cholesterol and HOMA were significantly elevated in patients with baseline triglycerides greater than 100 mg/dL, while HDL cholesterol was lower.

Conclusions:

In our study, patients with triglycerides below 100 mg/dL had high HDL cholesterol, while the group with triglycerides above 100 mg/dL had low HDL cholesterol, higher HOMA, higher Remnant Cholesterol and higher Non-HDL cholesterol.
