Abstract
NAVARRO VELIZ, Javier Amador et al. Determinants of sanitation network connectivity in the Junín region, 2018-2022. e-Rev. Multidiscip. Saber [online]. 2025, vol.3, e-RMS09082025. Epub Sep 23, 2025. ISSN 2960-2467. https://doi.org/10.61286/e-rms.v3i.259.
This study addresses the problem of limited access to sanitation networks in the Junín region, Peru, during the period 2018-2022. Despite public policies and investment in infrastructure, significant gaps persist, especially in rural areas, which affect public health and the sustainable development of the population. The research aims to identify the determining factors of connectivity to the sanitation network, considering household characteristics, coverage, quality and costs associated with the service. A non-experimental correlational-causal and cross-sectional design was used, with data obtained from the National Survey of Budget Programs carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. Using econometric models, such as probabilistic regression, the factors that affect the connection of households to water and excrement disposal services were analyzed. The results show that household characteristics, such as their socioeconomic composition and location, have a significant influence on connectivity. Service coverage is another key factor, showing a marked difference between urban and rural areas. Likewise, service quality, measured through continuity and residual chlorine levels, presents critical challenges to guarantee adequate sanitation conditions. The study concludes that it is essential to adopt inclusive public policies that prioritize the expansion of infrastructure in rural areas and improve the quality of services. The findings suggest the need for targeted strategies to close the access gap, ensure the sustainability of services and promote the well-being of communities in the region.
