This research aims to analyze how digital competencies influence the academic performance of university students enrolled in an English course within a specific faculty at the University of Panama, as well as to explore how these findings can guide curricular adjustments to effectively integrate digital tools into language teaching. A quantitative correlational approach was used with a sample of 30 students enrolled in a specific level of the English course in the selected faculty. Data was collected using a questionnaire based on a common digital competency framework, adapted for the student context, and statistical techniques such as linear regression were applied to determine the relationship between digital competencies and academic performance. The results revealed a significant correlation, especially in dimensions such as digital literacy, communication and collaboration, and content creation, which showed a relevant impact on academic achievement. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening these competencies as an integral part of the educational process, suggesting that incorporating pedagogical strategies aimed at improving digital skills can foster more contextualized and effective English learning. Consequently, the study provides evidence for the review and updating of the university curriculum, promoting the inclusion of digital tools that respond to the current needs of the academic and technological environment in Panama, contributing to optimizing student training and enhancing their language learning performance.
