Abstract

The influence of digital competencies on the development of research skills among students from the Faculty of Engineering at a private university was the focus of this study, conducted under an applied approach, explanatory level, and quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of 500 students, from which a representative sample of 271 was selected using probabilistic sampling for finite populations. A validated questionnaire was administered through a survey technique, and data analysis was performed using Excel and SPSS version 24. Findings revealed a positive and statistically significant impact of digital competencies on research skills. Initial measurements indicated low levels of engagement in research activities; however, following the intervention, a substantial increase was observed: the number of students who “always conduct research” rose from 34 to 47, while those who “almost always conduct research” increased from 85 to 121. Hypothesis testing confirmed a direct and significant relationship between the variables. It is concluded that strengthening digital competencies is a key factor in enhancing research skills among engineering students, positively influencing their academic performance and their ability to generate relevant and contextualized scientific knowledge.
