Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Venezuela Instructions to publish

The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Venezuela (ROGV) is the official organ of scientific dissemination of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Venezuela. It was founded in 1941, as a formal, peer-reviewed, quarterly publication that receives original articles, systematic reviews, topic reviews, clinical cases and any other text of a scientific nature related to the specialty.

Access to Articles

Its articles, with open access through the journal's website http://www.sogvzla.org.ve/sogvzla20186/sacirevista.php, are submitted to the consideration of experts, or referees, whose identity is kept confidential for ethical principles.

Requirements of the Works

The works must be unpublished, written in Spanish (abstract in Spanish and English) and accompanied by a cover letter informing that the article or part of it has not been sent simultaneously to another journal. The letter must be signed by all the authors, who will be responsible for the content of the article.

Main Author Information

The main author must provide their full address, telephone number, email and cell phone number, as well as place of work. There is no special format for this letter, it is only important that it contains the requested information. For any questions or concerns, you can contact us through the journal's email: rogvenezuela@gmail.com

Submission of Works

The works can be sent by email, rogvenezuela@gmail.com or physically, in original, copy and modifiable electronic format (compact disc), to the journal's secretariat at Av. San Martín, Caracas, Venezuela.

Right of Admission

The Editorial Committee of the Journal reserves the right to accept, modify or reject any work, notifying this to the main author.

Arbitration Process

As the ROGV is a peer-reviewed journal, all the works received are sent to one or more expert referees in the subject who issue, anonymously, their opinion and send it to the Journal's Management; however, the final decision to accept or not a manuscript is the responsibility of the Management.

Confidentiality and Ethics of Referees

Referees should not comment on the content of the work with third parties, nor use their data, in any way, for their own benefit or that of others. When there is a conflict of interest with authors, topics or funding, the referee must refrain from acting as an expert. None of the referees can be part of the Editorial Committee.

Function of Referees

The function of the referees is to give their opinion on the relevance and pertinence of the topic, importance, originality and validity of the work, type of research, literature review, contributions in the discussion and analysis of the results, validity of the conclusions, that is, to give their opinion on whether a manuscript is appropriate to be published or not.

Review of the Editorial Committee

Subsequently, the article is reviewed by the Editorial Committee, who make a thorough and detailed review of it, and point out all the pertinent corrections, in form (including spelling, orthotypography, writing and syntax), substance and making special emphasis on the citations and references. The Editorial Committee takes care of the internal organization of the manuscript, the correction of tables and figures and the adaptation of the abstract.

Corrections and Returns

When it comes to minor corrections, the Committee is responsible for incorporating them into the text; when they are major corrections, the article is returned to the authors to correct the manuscript and return it corrected.

Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

Since 2020; 80 (4), the journal has the following DOI (digital object identifier): https://doi. org/10.51288/. From that date, each document is identified with a doi that begins with the indicated prefix and after the /, 00, the volume, the number and the number of the article are included. Thus, for example, the doi of the editorial of number 4 of 2020 is: https://doi.org/10.51288/00800403 (that is, 00, volume 80, number 04, article number 3).

Creative Commons License

Manuscript Preparation - General Considerations

The works must be written in Spanish (abstract in Spanish and English), at 1.5 line spacing (except abstract, summary and references that must be written with single line spacing), interparagraph spacing before 6 and after 6, without indentation, with margins of 25 mm on all four edges, numbered in the lower right corner, correlatively starting with the title page. It is requested that they be written in Times New Roman, black, size 12, justified, using a page design with vertical orientation, letter size, white background.

Document Submission

It is requested to send a document with the latest corrected version of the work, in Word format, in one column, and that includes the tables, figures and images in modifiable format (for editing purposes). The works can also be sent physically, on a compact disc, with the same characteristics.

Text Structure

The text must contain: 1) title page, 2) abstract and keywords, 3) text, 4) acknowledgments, 5) references, 6) tables and illustrations.

Title Page

The title page will contain: a) the title of the article, which must be short, explanatory and attractive to the reader, no more than 20 words, b) name and surname of each author, c) Open Researcher and Contributor identification (ORCID) number (mandatory), d) affiliation of the authors: the highest title of the author, telephone and email, the name of the department or institution where the research was carried out. Indicate if the work was presented at any meeting or congress, if it obtained any distinction or served for promotion of degree or academic title. Indicate financial aid and whether or not there are conflicts of interest.

Abstract

In original works, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, the abstract must be structured, in Spanish and English (summary), and must not exceed 250 words. It will consist of objective, methods, results and conclusions, without introduction. At the end of the abstracts, both in Spanish and English, 3 to 10 keywords or short phrases that help to index the article must be added, written with initial capital letter, separated by commas. The terms from the Medical Subject Heading list [Medical Subject Headings] of the Index Medicus should be used. In clinical case reports and reviews, the abstract will be unstructured and should not exceed 150 words.

Article Text

Next, the text of the article will be presented, which will be divided into sections. For original articles, the following will be included: introduction, methods, results and discussion. Clinical case reports, editorials, brief communications and reviews may depart from this scheme. In any case, correct writing and spelling are expected. The review of the following editorial article is suggested: Spelling errors and inaccuracies when writing a scientific article, available at: http://www.sogvzla.org.ve/sogvzla20186/cms/svcobtenerpdfrevista.php?id=0000000094&tipo=normal&fila=2

Introduction

The introduction should include generalities of the study, variables and objectives of the research; written in the present, with the background in the past. It should be brief, in general, it should represent between 10% and 15% of the document.

References in the Text

Throughout the text, the references must be numbered consecutively following the order in which they are mentioned for the first time in the text and will be identified by Arabic numbers in parentheses and at the level of the text (not in superscript), immediately after their mention. The original source should be referred to, whenever possible. In case of requiring to mention the author, when it is a single person, the surname will be placed followed by the parenthesis with the corresponding number. When there are two authors, both surnames are mentioned followed by the parenthesis with the reference; in case of being more than two authors, only the surname of the first author will be placed followed by the expression et al. and, next, the parenthesis with the reference.

Methods

In methods, the type of study, the population and the sample, the inclusion and exclusion criteria, how the variables were measured, the procedures in detail and the mention of the necessary bioethical criteria and the statistical methods used will be described. In general, it should be written in the past. The length of this section should not exceed 30% of the article (ideal: 20% to 30%).

Bioethical Criteria

In relation to bioethical criteria, the journal's management assumes that the research that is published complies with the four fundamental bioethical principles: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and social justice. It is essential that researchers mention informed consent in prospective research involving patients and that they have the approval of the Bioethics Committee of the corresponding Institution, according to the research.

Results

Next, the results are presented in a logical sequence in the text. All the data that are in the tables and figures (which must be included as annexes, in the same file) should not be repeated in the text, only the most important data should be emphasized. Do not duplicate data in graphs and tables. When pertinent, numerical and percentage results should be included. The usual length of this section is approximately 10% to 20% of that of the article.

Discussion

In the discussion, the data that appear in the introduction should not be repeated, nor the results, although it may be useful to briefly point out a summary of the findings. Compare and contrast the results with those of other studies, analyze the results according to theoretical bases and according to the opinion of the authors, describe the limitations of the study. At the end of the discussion, conclusions and recommendations related to the objectives of the research are presented. The ideal length of the section is 50% of the article. In the writing, the past should be used to evoke the study or to describe the results of other studies, the present to refer to established facts, concepts and theories, the future to raise perspectives and the conditional to advance the hypotheses.

Acknowledgments

Next, the acknowledgments section is included, in it must appear in a punctual and specific way, all those people who collaborated with the manuscript but do not qualify as authors. Economic or material aid is also included without detailing them because they are exposed on the first page.

References

Next, the references are presented. In an original article the ideal number of citations is between 20 and 40; in clinical cases between 10 and 20, in letters to the editor no more than 10. Reviews may include a larger number. The following should not be used as references: a) abstracts of congress papers, b) personal communications, c) articles not yet accepted, d) conferences (dissertations), e) manuscripts not yet published. When preparing the list of references, the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors must be strictly followed, which are updated periodically, available at the following links: http://www.icmje.org/icmje-recommendations.pdf https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7256/ https://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/uniform_requirements.html

Annexes

Finally, the annexes are presented, numbered as they appear in the text. Tables, graphs and figures are included here so as not to interrupt the flow of reading, but they must be referred to in the description of the results. The same information should not be represented in two different forms. The authors can include tables and graphs, for different data but each data, in a single form. Restrict tables, graphs and figures to those necessary to represent the stated objectives. Each table must be presented at 1.5 line spacing, on a separate sheet, and numbered consecutively in the order in which they are cited in the text, each with its respective title. Do not use internal lines to divide them. Avoid abbreviations, but, if necessary, explain the abbreviations used in footnotes. Send the original figures in electronic files in JPEG or GIF form. When requested, send them in modifiable Word format (for editing needs). The figures must be numbered according to the order in which they were cited in the text and will contain a legend. Indicate the source of any table, chart, figure or graph taken from another author. The tables, figures and graphs that represent the results of the research should not have a source.

Number of Authors

The number of authors should be limited to a maximum of 6 for original articles, 4 in clinical cases and 2 in editorials. In case of requiring the inclusion of more authors, it must be justified in writing. The Editorial Committee requires that researchers be registered in the Open Researcher and Contributor identification (ORCID). It is an alphanumeric, non-commercial code that uniquely identifies scientists and other academic authors worldwide. This code provides a lasting identity for people, similar to those that are created for content entities related to digital networks, which is done through digital object identifiers. Registration is a simple and free procedure that avoids authorship errors due to confusion of names or change of surnames over time.

Examples of References

The following are examples of the most used references. The Editorial Committee invites the authors to review all the 44 possible options (May 2022 update) in the following links: https://www.nlm.nih.gov/ bsd/uniform_requirements.html https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7256/
