LIBERTAD SUAREZ, Mariana. The forgetfulness capacity: Representations and self-representations of Venezuelan intellectual women in the sixties. Núcleo [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.24, pp.171-192. ISSN 0798-9784.
During the sixties, as a result of a number of cultural and political events, the organic intellectuals in Venezuela had to define, once again, the gender roles demanded by the democratization project. As it is usually the case, this territory demarcation exercise provoked an immediate reaction. A series of self-writing exercises mainly produced by women emerged thus in parallel with these organization-oriented efforts. Such texts not only addressed the possibilities and impossibilities of the existence of a "self ", but they also pointed at the dissolution of the "Venezuelan woman" notion as an unquestionable mass media and symbolic construction. A clear example of this trend is the short story "Paralelepípedo" by Helena Sassone, included in her book Entre cuatro paredes (1969). In the story, the authoress manages to create the framework to dialogue with the female subject mass media representations circulating at the time in Venezuela, while providing the readers with a series of theoretical tools that would help them understand what place she wanted to occupy as an intellectual woman.
